The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a mountain railway from Mettupalayam in Tamil Nadu to Ooty, known as the Queen of Hill Stations.
This meter gauge railway line is located in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. This train from Mettupalayam to Ooty is 46 km long. Distance is there.

In July 2005, the railway was included in UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. The song “Chaiya Chaiya” from Manichitra Dilsey starring Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala was shot here. There is only one train from Mettupalayam to Ooty at 7:10 AM. That train will reach Ooty at 12 noon. Similarly there is only one train from Ooty to Mettupalayam. This train leaves Ooty at 2 PM and reaches Mettupalayam at 5:30 PM.

 

But there are 3 trains each from Ooty to Coonoor and from Coonoor to Ooty. Below I am writing the train timetable. You can get a ticket only if you stand in the queue at least one hour before the departure of the train. 19 km from Ooty to Coonoor. Although there is only distance, this 19 km. It will take an hour to cover. After going to Coonoor from Ooty, it is not possible to get a return ticket to Ooty.
There are two options here.
1) Return journey will have to be done by bus from Coonoor. The bus is frequent.

 

2) Most of the Malayalees go to Ooty in their own vehicle by calling a call driver or by taxi. If so, you should go to Coonoor by train. Just ask them to come to Coonoor station with a driver road vehicle to pick you up.
I request you not to miss this trip where you can see and enjoy tea plantations, eucalyptus trees, various types of trees and mountains. The name of Ooty railway station is not Ooty. It is called Udagamandalam.
Special note: If you board the train from Ooty railway station, try to sit on the opposite side of the flat form as much as possible. Most of the beautiful views are on that side.
